Building a YouTube Channel, Finding Love, and Understanding Climate Change

Its been a while since I have written a blog post! This is just a quick update on how life has been going!

It has taken me years to build up the courage to start my YouTube channel! While I'm still figuring out what I’m doing with my blog, YouTube, I’m genuinely having fun exploring how to share my love for literature and learning. In many ways, I wish I had started sooner. I didn’t realize how energizing it is to talk about the things I care about. My channel is very, very small, and I don’t have the best production quality, but I’m proud of simply starting. I have been slow to tell anyone close to me because I feel embarrassed about trying something new, especially when it feels so public. At the same time, learning something new is vulnerable; to learn is to admit what you don’t know, and that’s never an easy feeling to overcome.

Partnered

I have a boyfriend! If you’ve seen the viral “I’m looking for a man in finance” video, my remix for him is: “I’m looking for a man in science, 5'5, blue eyes, published.” And yes, he actually is published! I know the general rule is to keep relationships quiet, but I’m really happy right now. I believe there’s something to be said about being completely into someone and to want to share that joy.

Climate Change Class

My partner invited me to sit in on his Introduction to Climate Change class and join his Complex Systems Lab group. The class is fascinating and is very focused on teaching the science behind climate change, diving into details about fracking, such as how it works, how oil is extracted from the ground, how it contributes to climate change, and what it means for our livelihoods as humans. Needless to say, we are royally messed up! However, the class has also shown me that when the world stopped in 2020 because of COVID, there was a noticeable decrease in greenhouse gas emissions. I haven’t read the book Slow Down: The Degrowth Manifesto by Kohei Saito. I have not read the book yet (though I own it)  he essentially argues that the only way to genuinely reverse the problem of climate change is to slow down: buy fewer things, work from home more, travel less, ect. He argues that the idea that we can solve climate change without slowing down economic growth is an absolute myth. Another book that’s been on my mind is It Doesn’t Have to be this way by Alistair Mackay. Its set in Cape Town in the future when climate change has done its work. Its so easey to forgt that Cape Town was the first major world city to run out of water. These books and this class is really highlighting the extent of the crisis.

I would be thrilled if you joined me on this adventure! Subscribe to my blog and YouTube channel for more insights, discussions, and updates as I navigate these exciting new experiences. Let’s share our love for literature, learning!
